Community Resource Corps Overview:
The purpose of AmeriCorps is to promote volunteerism by engaging AmeriCorps Members in direct service and capacity-building to address demonstrated or unmet community needs. AmeriCorps Members are placed at individual nonprofits and public agencies throughout Maine to implement and improve the utilization of best practices in volunteer management while helping agencies operate or expand valuable community programs through the involvement of volunteers. The CRC is a division of Goodwill Industries of Northern New England.
Host Site Overview:
The Town of Cranberry Isles has had a fire department for several years with trucks and equipment on both islands. EMS has been a relativily new addition to the towns services with in the past five years. There has been no real formalization of either of these two services and they have evolved based soley on individuals volunteer efforts without a consentrated central effort.
Position Title: Emergency Response Coordinator
Immediate Supervisor: Hugh Smallwood/Dan Lief
Host Site Location: Islesford, Maine
Term of Service: 1700 Hour Position - October 15, 2010 to September 15, 2011
Qualifications:
• Self motivated with a high degree of flexibility
• Ability to clearly and concisely communicate orally and in writing
• Excellent organizational skills
• Dedication to the mission of AmeriCorps Community Resource Corps
• Effective public speaker
• Ability to use various types of technology (i.e. word processing, Microsoft Office Suite, Go To Meeting, on-line reporting system)

Requirements:
• The incumbent will be required to attend an EMT – Basic course
• Applicant must be a resident of the Cranberry Isles

Essential Functions:
• Develop, implement and strengthen volunteer programs
• Coordinate and facilitate meetings
• Participate in staff meetings
• Attend required weekly meetings with supervisor
• Coordinate projects with team members
• Personal transportation

Site Specific Essential Functions:

• Networking outreach to other volunteer fire & EMS services
• Plan and coordinate fire and EMS training and education
• Raise awareness within the community
• Implement and improve and document our volunteer management system
• Recruit and set up training for community volunteers fire and EMS
• Work with local businesses to develop incentives for community members

It is intended that the incumbent for this position be planning to remain on the Cranberry Isles for the next two years so that they may continue to be integral part of the town’s emergency services.

Work Schedule/Working Conditions: 35 - 40 hour week - Includes some weekend and evening hours. Fast paced environment with various deadlines and multiple internal and external stakeholders. Work is performed in an office setting using computer, copier, fax, and general office equipment.
Working Relationships/Support: Member will be provided support by the direct Supervisor and Host Site Organization as well as the AmeriCorps Staff. Member will receive a thorough on-site and AmeriCorps Orientation, Host Site specific training and training on a variety of topics related to work within a nonprofit setting. Various reporting will be required of the member throughout the term by the AmeriCorps Staff regarding member performance, completion of goals, training accomplishments, and continuous improvement of our program.

AmeriCorps Member Benefits
All AmeriCorps positions have a living allowance of $11,800 evenly divided over the course of their 11 month term, health insurance coverage from the first day of service to the last day of the last month of their term, and a $5,350 education award (upon completion) to apply to previous federal student loans or continuing education costs at a Title IV Institution. Applicable student loans can be put in forbearance and any interest accrued during the term will be paid by AmeriCorps. Members are covered under health insurance and workers compensation. Eligible members can also apply for child care reimbursement. Mileage to AmeriCorps Sponsored Training events will be reimbursed to members. The local host site will reimburse mileage expenses associated with project related travel at the rate which they reimburse their staff. Members also receive significant professional and personal development training.
